Deciding on the proposal of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH to order detention, the Court of BiH on June 4 issued a decision ordering the suspect Rasim Bajić to be detained. According to this decision, detention may last one month from the day of arrest, i.e. until July 1, 2016, or until a new court decision, the Court of BiH announced, as reported by the Patria news agency.
Upon reviewing the submitted evidence, the Court found that there is a reasonable suspicion that the suspect committed the criminal offense he is charged with, and ordered detention due to circumstances indicating a risk of flight and a well-founded fear that, if released, he would destroy, conceal, alter, or forge evidence or traces important for the criminal proceedings, or due to special circumstances indicating that he would obstruct the criminal proceedings by influencing witnesses, accomplices, or accessories.
Rasim Bajić is suspected of committing the criminal offense of organized crime in connection with the criminal offense of unauthorized trafficking in weapons and military equipment, as well as dual-use products.
For the record, Rasim Bajić was arrested at the border crossing in Brčko upon entering BiH, for whom a warrant had been issued due to suspicion that he is part of an international criminal chain dealing in drug and arms smuggling.
Bajić, who holds BiH and Croatian citizenship, is linked to a criminal group that was arrested a few days ago as part of the international operation Postman.
A search of Bajić's house in Croatia found 50,000 euros in various currencies, two M52 bombs, 600 grams of plastic explosives, and five detonator caps.
As part of the Postman operation, Jusuf Avdić and Srećko Ponjević were arrested in Brčko, and the Court of BiH ordered them to be detained for one month. Rusmir Đedović was arrested in Srebrenik, while the Austrian police, whose judiciary is also involved in this operation, arrested Amir Kovačević from Brčko and Sava Dragišić from Bosanska Gradiška. This criminal group is charged with drug smuggling in BiH and European Union countries.
