Four people dead in Magdeburg attack, 41 others in serious condition

(Patria) - German media report that a total of four people have been confirmed dead following last night's attack at a Christmas market in Magdeburg.

Around 200 people were injured in the attack in Magdeburg, Bild reported.

Bild states that 41 people were seriously injured in the car ramming, while 86 people are in hospital due to severe injuries.

A memorial service will be held in Magdeburg Cathedral.

The Berlin government has ordered increased security at Christmas markets in the German capital following the deadly attack in Magdeburg.

Berlin's Interior Minister Iris Spranger announced this move, saying that authorities are in close contact to discuss increasing their presence in the city.

Magdeburg is approximately a two-hour drive from Berlin.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz will also visit the scene of the terrorist attack today.

The driver of the car that crashed into the market visitors, driving another 400 meters and hitting people, has been arrested. He is a 50-year-old doctor who has been in Germany since 2006, having come from Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabian authorities have condemned this attack and sent condolences to Germany.
