Floods in southern Germany have claimed four lives, and hundreds of students were trapped in schools overnight due to blocked roads, German authorities reported, writes Index, as reported by the Patria news agency.
The bodies of three people were found in a flooded house in the town of Simbach am Inn, while a fourth victim was found in a stream in the town of Julbach, police reported. Due to heavy rain that fell in a short period, streets in many towns in southern Germany were flooded, with water reaching up to one meter.
Cars, trees, and furniture are floating around, and many houses have been cut off by water, forcing residents to climb onto roofs, from where they were rescued by helicopters. Bavarian authorities estimate that flood damage will exceed 10 million euros.
The floods are the result of a severe storm that hit Germany last weekend, when 32 liters of water per square meter fell in six hours.
