FOUR YEARS SINCE THE VERDICT The personification of the cruelest atrocities - Radovan Karadžić

(Patria) - On this day, March 20, 2019, the final verdict for war criminal Radovan Karadžić was delivered.

The Appeals Chamber of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts, composed of Judge Vagn Prüsse Joensen, Presiding Judge, Judge William Hussein Sekule, Judge José Ricardo de Prada Solaesa, Judge Graciela Susana Gatti Santana, and Judge Ivo Nelson de Caires Batista Rosa, delivered the verdict on the appeals filed by Radovan Karadžić and the Prosecution on March 24, 2016, against the judgment of the Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). 

Karadžić, one of the founders of the Serb Democratic Party, who was the President of Republika Srpska and supreme commander of its armed forces from December 17, 1992, was found guilty by the Trial Chamber of genocide, crimes against humanity, and violations of the laws and customs of war, and sentenced to 40 years in prison. 

It is clear that no verdict can diminish the pain of mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters who lost their loved ones. The verdicts of the Hague Tribunal should serve as a lesson for the future, so that such evil never happens again to anyone.

The paradigm of the cruelest atrocities after the Holocaust is precisely the atrocities committed during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the key figure and personification of the cruelest atrocities is precisely Radovan Karadžić. His trial, and the trials of other criminals, showed the full morbidity and darkened minds that gripped masses contaminated by a criminal, Greater-state ideology.
