(Patria) - - Senior US military officials have submitted detailed plans for the potential deployment of US ground forces in Iran, as President Donald Trump considers options, sources told CBS News, Al Arabiya reported.
Citing sources familiar with the deliberations, CBS News reported that Trump is considering whether to deploy ground troops to the region. Trump has publicly said that he is "not sending troops anywhere," but added that he would not reveal such a decision to the press.
Sources also said that US military officials discussed contingencies in case of deployment, including how to handle the detention of Iranian soldiers or operatives.
The White House said on Friday that it could "take" Iran's Kharg Island whenever it wanted, following reports that Trump is considering plans to occupy or blockade the oil hub.
The US military is also deploying thousands of additional Marines and sailors to the Middle East, three US officials told Reuters on Friday.
