(Patria) - The decision on who Greenland belongs to does not depend on US President Donald Trump, but on Greenland itself and the Kingdom of Denmark, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated in Beijing.
- The future of Greenland is a decision for Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark - Carney told reporters yesterday at a press conference, following talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Carney called on NATO allies, including the US, to "respect their obligations."
He emphasized Canada's full support for Danish sovereignty over the Arctic island, which Trump has threatened the US could take over.
- We are NATO partners with Denmark, and our partnership is complete. Our obligations under Article 5 and Article 2 of NATO are in effect, and we fully stand behind them - Carney said.
He stated that Greenland and Arctic sovereignty were also topics in his talks with the Chinese president, noting that a "high degree of agreement on positions" was observed on these issues.
