Cameron travels to Washington for urgent talks on Gaza and Ukraine

(Patria) - British Foreign Secretary David Cameron travels to Washington today for talks with his counterpart Antony Blinken on the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, AFP reported.

Cameron will advocate for a "full, urgent and transparent investigation" into the Israeli airstrike last week that killed seven aid workers in Gaza, according to a statement from the British Foreign Office.

The UK government has faced calls to suspend arms export licenses to Israel after three Britons working for the US-based food charity World Central Kitchen (WCK) were killed in the Israeli strike.

More than 600 lawyers, including former Supreme Court judges, warned in a letter that London risks violating international law by continuing to allow arms exports to Israel.

The foreign secretary is expected to discuss arms exports during a joint press conference with Blinken, but will not announce a policy change, according to sources from the British government.

"He will underline that the deaths of World Central Kitchen aid workers are completely unacceptable and that major changes are needed to ensure the safety of aid workers on the ground," the Foreign Office said.

Talks between Cameron and Blinken will also focus on "the path to a sustainable ceasefire and the delivery of larger amounts of humanitarian aid to Gaza," the statement added.

Cameron will also urge leaders of the US Congress to approve the proposed $60 billion military aid package for Ukraine, which Republican lawmakers have been blocking for months.

More than $184 billion has already been given to Ukraine by European countries, including over $15 billion from the UK. In addition, the US has allocated nearly $74 billion.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Sunday that Ukraine will lose the war with Russia if Congress does not approve the stalled package.

Cameron said ahead of his visit that "Ukraine's success and Putin's failure are vital for American and European security."
