Cameron: We must not show weakness towards Putin, as we did towards Hitler

(Patria) - British Foreign Secretary David Cameron issued a stern warning to the US Congress, urging it to quickly adopt the aid package for Ukraine approved by the Senate.

Cameron, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, emphasized in an open letter the importance of the consequences of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the importance of victory over Russian President Vladimir Putin, reports Index.hr.

"We are now faced with a choice. A simple test. On one side is Putin, who hopes to expand his empire simply by outmaneuvering the West. He believes we are weak. He believes he can get away with the most shocking act of aggression we have seen in our lifetime.

On the other side are all of us. We have the resources, the economic power, the expertise. Our economic strength is 25 times greater than Russia's. Russia has to turn to Pyongyang for help. All we need to do is make our strength pay off. The question is, do we have the will," Cameron wrote.

Cameron's plea comes at a time when support for aid to Ukraine has begun to wane, particularly among American Republicans, who have adopted more isolationist policies in recent years.

"I urge Congress to pass this package. I want everyone, the US, the UK, European and other allies, to support Ukraine in its fight against completely unprovoked aggression. It is hard to imagine a clearer case of one country being attacked by another without any justification," Cameron said.

He warned Americans not to repeat the mistakes of the 1930s, when European leaders made territorial concessions to Adolf Hitler, mistakenly believing it would prevent Germany from further expansion. Ultimately, these concessions helped pave the way for World War II.

"I believe our shared history shows the folly of appeasing tyrants in Europe who believe in redrawing borders by force. I do not want us to show the weakness we showed towards Hitler in the 1930s. He came back for more, costing us many more lives than if we had stopped his aggression," Cameron concluded.
