Cameron says he is concerned Israel may have breached international law in Gaza

(Patria) - British Foreign Secretary David Cameron stated that he is concerned that Israel may have breached international law in Gaza, Reuters reported.

Asked during a question and answer session with lawmakers whether Israel could be vulnerable to a challenge before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague over whether its actions were proportionate, Cameron said his position was "close to that".

Cameron did not directly answer whether he had received legal advice that Israel might have breached international law, but said some incidents had raised the question of whether there had been breaches.

"Am I concerned that Israel has taken measures that could be in breach of international humanitarian law, because this particular building was bombed or anything else? Yes, of course," Cameron said as he answered questions from the parliamentary foreign affairs committee.

Cameron said there was always a "question mark" over whether an incident had breached
international law, which lawyers would examine and then advise him.

"The advice has been, up until now, that they (Israel) have the commitment, the capability and the compliance (with international law), but on many occasions it is put into question," he said.
