Burzić on the Prosecutor's Decision in the Dženan Memić Murder Case

Chief Cantonal Prosecutor Dalide Burzić will hold a press conference today at 12:00 to announce the prosecutor's decision in the Dženan Memić case, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

We recall that twenty-two-year-old Dženan Memić sustained life-threatening injuries on the night of 8 February 2016 in Velika aleja in Ilidža, and died on 15 February at the University Clinical Centre of Sarajevo. When he was attacked, he was in the company of his girlfriend Alisa Mutap, who also sustained injuries.

From the very beginning, the investigation in this case was shrouded in secrecy, and the Memić family was dissatisfied with the work of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton. On 7 March this year, the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation against an unknown person for the criminal offence of murder. Two peaceful protests were organised by family members, friends and citizens demanding that the truth about the death of this young man be revealed.

At the end of May, Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović were arrested in connection with this case. Ljubo Seferović is suspected of the serious criminal offence against the safety of public traffic and failing to assist a person injured in a traffic accident. Bekrija Seferović is suspected of the criminal offence of obstructing evidence, while the third arrested person, Vasvija Sejdović, was released. 

Ljubo headed towards the home of his father Bekrija, to whom he said that he had hit a pedestrian. He then saw that, in addition to the broken windscreen, the bumper, left headlight, turn signal and fender were also damaged. The next day, he repaired the damage to the vehicle, taking parts from a decommissioned van that was in the yard. Two days after repairing the vehicle, he replaced it in Zenica.

Ljubo Seferović's detention was extended at the end of July.
