Since my student days, I have been aware of the necessity of rebellion on the streets in a system that is not made for a human being, a citizen, or for the equality of rights and obligations of each of us. From protests for the personal identification number to the latest ones I attended, those in front of the OHR against apartheid, I have never heard so many messages to someone protesting that their protests must be peaceful, as in the case of student protests due to the tram accident.
Those protests started sadly and spontaneously, the day after the tragedy in which we lost the artist Erdoan Morankić, in which student Elli Jovanović suffered permanent health damage and several other people were injured. The day after, we heard accusations and shouts that the protests were politically manipulated, as if the death of one and the suffering of another young person were not enough.
Very synchronously and in several parallel streams, actions were taken to create a narrative and perception that these protests were "someone's" against "someone", and not a rebellion of young people endangered on their way home, to school, or simply going out. And when the public space is burdened with such a narrative, then the same space was poisoned and burdened with "calls" to avoid violence.
The system that perpetrates all forms of violence became afraid of the violence of the victims, the children of Sarajevo, the children of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this process of intimidation, which in all respects belongs to political terrorism, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton was the first to participate, and through various communication channels, it spread the story that there were suspicious individuals among the youth. Then, an arrest was staged, most likely of those whom the Ministry of Internal Affairs had placed near the Eternal Flame, with whom a flare, some stick, and I think a French wrench were found. Never after that day of protest was the public informed about who the people were with whom all this was found, nor where they were at that time.
Moreover, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, through compliant principals of Sarajevo schools, sent a message to parents not to let their children go to the streets. No one then explained what the threat was and how it was eliminated. Because the protests did not stop, but the messages about alleged violence stopped coming. The only violence during the protests was committed by the Minister of Education Naida Hota-Muminović, who ordered the principals to lock the schools, and the children were threatened with expulsion from school. And no one held her accountable for endangering children.
In the entire story and poisoning of public space, the OSA, or its director Almir Džuvo, inevitably played a role, who through his tentacles inside and outside the system also spread fear of escalating protests.
And our journalist colleagues, who wholeheartedly defend the right of demonstrators in Iran to fight for their rights, readily accepted and eagerly spread fear and panic about our children, in our city and our country.
As Shakespeare wrote, "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark," but the Bosnian version would be "everything is rotten in the Bosnian state." Because the system that killed one child and permanently harmed another defends itself by accusing the children fighting for the right to life and safety of violence.
And then silence, after Uk resigned. The threats, the accusations disappeared, the schools were unlocked, the students were welcomed and under police protection. And here we come to another question. Along with the story of possible violent protests, a question was also raised that looms over every rebellion - "which party is behind all this". But, after Uk's resignation and the obvious conflict within the ruling elite in the throne of SDP-NiP-NS, almost no one asks anymore if the protests were politicized. Suddenly, the minister in the fallen government Adnan Šteta became available to the public to explain who resigned first, to go to Gras and order the director to resign too, to talk about how it was when SDA ruled and to propagate how much better it is now that he ruled. Who cares, Adnane, when the system under SDA's leadership killed people in this city, we overthrew that system, the author of these lines was among those who overthrew it, now the system you lead, Adnane Šteta, is killing people, so now we are overthrowing you.
Because no one in the crowd of youth is taking over the job of the Prosecutor's Office, which, again under political violence, works in the interest of that bad system that kills. And they almost killed the driver who was driving a tram with a serious defect.
But, how is it that after the fall of the KS Government, no one asked about the party affiliation of the protests anymore?
Simply, those who were hunting for non-existent witches put on their Halloween costumes and appeared at the protests. From that moment on, the protests were truly under political control - under the control of Trojka's FGR.
And this is not hidden at all, it is clearly visible, because an actor, the zero FGR, appears at the protests and talks about how the system needs to be changed, but not the policies, because "we know who will come after these". Of course, the actor means SDA, because he is Trojka's FGR.
At the rally, the last one, an unknown woman with a banner "I'll return the horse's head when you return the money" was noticed, who that night sent a message to everyone who allegedly commented on her that they "eat shit" during iftar.
The end!
There, the protests are as pure as the sun, as the youth who led them, are over. Maybe not in a physical form, maybe there will be another rally, but that's the end of the story of a possible positive outcome.
Because, along with the aforementioned actor and the woman who says she carries someone else's head, Muriz Memić also received permission to participate more actively in the protests. The father of Dženan Memić, a victim of the system who also did not get justice, but a father who calculated by accusing some of being mafia and praising others. Praising those who had the power to help him on the path to justice, but only deceived him.
And in the end, he came. And I knew he had come as soon as I heard the word "plenum" on N1's broadcast. I didn't have to see the picture, I knew that Professor Asim Mujkić was somewhere at the protests, one of those who rendered the 2014 protests meaningless to the point of nullity.
And then he, Asim Mujkić, appeared on the Sunday news of the regime FTV, and the day before he was at the protests against the regime. I am not surprised by the expected, because Mujkić spoke exactly in line with what I expected from him.
Thus, Mujkić, in a comment for FTV, expresses hope that the youth protests will open up space for "opening free spaces to recompose the hierarchies of the murderous system established for three decades".
For those who don't understand, "three decades" is a phrase that evokes anger towards SDA in people, and then Mujkić doubles it by finding the cause of our misfortune in "nationalism". Again, he evokes nostalgia for protesting against SDA, even though, to his misfortune, SDA is not in power.
On the other hand, what kind of nationalism is it, professor, if liberals from Naša stranka and social democrats from SDP have been in power in KS for about seven or eight years. Are these nationalist parties, or have you just gotten used to sending messages to the past ones, so you don't have another way.
There is no doubt, therefore, that the existing system has infiltrated its professional demonstrators into the children's rebellion for sheer survival. It's not the first time, is it!
I was at the protests in 2014 and I didn't see many media outlets defending the system against children who were burning down the system's buildings. I was at the protests on the penultimate day of December 2018 in Banja Luka and witnessed a serious fight between the police defending the system and those who were peacefully seeking justice. At that time, the Sarajevo media were absolutely on one side, on the side of those seeking justice. Why they hesitated to stand with the young people of Sarajevo, they should explain!
Therefore, violence does not require much, just as it does not require two. Sometimes violence is the product of the anger of the disenfranchised, and sometimes the product of the fear of those who manage the system.
The youth protests in Sarajevo will be neither violent nor successful. Unfortunately, they are too contaminated and burdened from the start.
But, in the end, I am sure of one thing: if in 2023, instead of messages from intellectuals, we had sent violence towards the OHR, towards Schmidt, and towards those imposed on us to rule over us, who knows what story we would be telling today... I believe we would have avoided some tragedies!
