BUGOJNO: Investigation launched, police searching for mother of newborn found in dumpster

(Patria) - A dead baby was found in a dumpster in Bugojno this morning.

To recall, the body of the newborn was found by workers of the Public Utility Company "Čistoća" while collecting waste from that dumpster.

Hasan Hodžić, spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Central Bosnia Canton, told the portal Oslobođenje that at around 11:25 AM, a worker from the utility company reported to the Bugojno Police Station.

– He reported that they found the body of a newborn in a dumpster on Sultan Ahmedova Street. Immediately after receiving the report, police officers, in cooperation with the cantonal prosecutor's office, began measures and actions to establish all facts and circumstances related to the mentioned event, said Hodžić.

The workers found the newborn practically during the emptying of the dumpster, and it is a miracle they noticed it, because the body would most likely have ended up at the landfill. In other words, this shocking case would not have come to light.

According to our information, the workers are in shock, but they remained composed and immediately stopped the dumpster emptying process and alerted the police.

Police officers are on the scene, securing the location, and an investigation team has been formed in the meantime.

Investigators have launched an extensive investigation, as well as a search for the baby's mother. Local health centers and hospitals will also be checked, which is standard procedure in such cases.
