British Prime Minister to Netanyahu: Peace process must lead to a Palestinian state

(Patria) - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu that the peace process after the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip "must lead" to a Palestinian state.

Starmer also said that "the United Kingdom is ready to do everything in its power to support a political process that must lead to a viable and sovereign Palestinian state".

Starmer and Netanyahu spoke by phone, and also agreed that they must work towards a lasting and peaceful solution that will guarantee Israel's security and stability.

Starmer thanked the Israeli government for its efforts to release hostages, including British hostage Emily Damari.

Damari (28) was released on the first day of the ceasefire, along with Doron Steinbrecher (31) and Romy Gonen (24).

According to the ceasefire agreement, Hamas must release 33 hostages in the first phase, and Israel around 1,900 Palestinian prisoners. The Israeli army must withdraw from a part of the Palestinian enclave.

The continuation of the process is uncertain. The terms of the second phase, which envisages a permanent cessation of hostilities and the release of all hostages, must be agreed upon later.
