British Foreign Secretary calls on Iran to stop supporting Houthis

(Patria) - British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said on Wednesday that he spoke with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and called on Tehran to stop supporting the Houthis, AFP reported.

"Iran must stop supplying the Houthis with weapons and intelligence and use its influence to stop Houthi attacks in the Red Sea," Cameron wrote on X.

"Iran must also stop using the regional situation as a cover for reckless action and violation of others' sovereignty. I made this clear to the Prime Minister," he added.

The United Kingdom last week joined the United States in striking Houthi bases in Yemen, which they say were used to launch attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told parliament on Monday that all thirteen planned targets, including a drone and cruise missile base, had been successfully destroyed.

Sunak and Cameron said the strikes were justified, proportionate, and lawful, despite criticism from old enemies Iran and Russia, as well as NATO member Turkey.
