British Foreign Secretary David Lammy wants to visit Gaza

(Patria) - British Foreign Secretary David Lammy called the Israeli shooting of civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in Gaza grotesque and sick, calling for full responsibility from the Israeli side for this act.

In an interview with "The Guardian", Lammy expressed growing frustration over the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and emphasized that the situation is desperate for the people on the ground, desperate for the hostages in Gaza, adding that the world is desperate for a ceasefire and an end to suffering.

Lammy said he 100 percent wants to visit Gaza as soon as he is able to. When asked if he intends to go to the scene personally, he replied: "Absolutely. One hundred percent."

Speaking about the British government's plans to recognize Palestine as an independent state, he emphasized that this is a card that can only be played once.

When asked if the war in Gaza had personally affected him, Lammy replied: "There have been many days of deep frustration and sadness." Although he did not cry, as he says, because he doesn't know when he last cried, probably when his mother died, he admitted that he had felt deep sadness many times over the past year.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been conducting a brutal offensive on Gaza, ignoring international calls for a ceasefire. During this period, according to Palestinian sources, more than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed.

Constant bombing, blockade, and difficult aid distribution have devastated the Gaza Strip, destroyed the health system, and caused death from starvation.

Israeli non-governmental organizations B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights – Israel have assessed that Israeli actions in Gaza constitute genocide, pointing to the systematic destruction of Palestinian society and the deliberate demolition of the health system.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Proceedings have also been initiated against Israel before the International Court of Justice for genocide in Gaza.
