British government rejects petition to cancel Trump's state visit

The British government has not accepted the petition signed by 1.8 million Britons on the Parliament website, demanding the cancellation of Donald Trump's visit to Great Britain, agencies report, as carried by Patria.

In a written response, the British Foreign Office states that the request has not been accepted, and that they will welcome the American president.

- The government understands the position expressed by the numerous signatories of this petition, but does not support the petition, the letter states, adding that during her visit to the United States of America on January 27, 2017, the Prime Minister, on behalf of the Queen, invited President Trump for a state visit to Great Britain later this year. “The invitation has been accepted. This invitation demonstrates the significance of the relationship between the USA and Great Britain. The date of the visit has not yet been determined,” the government’s response to the petition reads.

The petition will be subject to debate by Members of Parliament in Westminster Hall.
