Briton attempted to grab police officer's gun to shoot Trump

British citizen Michael Steven Sandford was arrested for attempting to grab a police officer's gun at a Trump rally in Las Vegas to "commit an act of violence" against Donald Trump, police officials reported.

A federal police representative stated that Sandford is "a danger and a risk to the community" and requested that he be detained without the possibility of bail.

British officials are also involved in the case.

The complaint against Sandford, filed with the district court in Nevada, states that Sandford "knowingly attempted to commit an act of physical violence against Donald Trump by attempting to seize a firearm from a police officer of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.".

Sandford allegedly told the American police officer that he had driven from California to kill the Republican candidate.

The complaint also states that Sandford went to the Battlefield Vegas shooting range on June 17 to learn how to shoot. There, he fired 20 rounds from a Glock 9mm pistol, which, according to the complaint, was the first time he had used a firearm.

In the statement of police officer Swierkowski, it is stated that Sandford told him that if he found himself on the street again tomorrow, he would try again. He stated that he had been living in the US for about a year and a half, and that for the last year he had been planning to kill Trump, but only gathered the courage to do so on Saturday.

The police officer also claims that Sandford had tickets to Trump's rally in Arizona later that day, and that he planned to attempt to assassinate the candidate there as well.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 5, according to a report by the British Guardian, NAP reports.
