BRČKO Fire in furniture store spread quickly due to large amount of combustible material, six workers injured

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Head of the Brčko District professional fire brigade Senad Kamenjašević says that the fire, which broke out this morning in part of the production hall of the furniture factory "Malagić" in the Brod settlement of Brčko, spread quickly due to a large amount of combustible material.

"We soon requested the assistance of all personnel and equipment available to the fire brigade. All our units are on the ground, and the Bimal fire brigade responded with its two units and personnel, as well as the fire brigade from Srebrenik. There was no hydrant network or water in the factory premises, which made our job difficult" – Kamenjašević said.

He adds that the fire was brought under control after a little over an hour, and that this is the second fire in Brčko District this year at one of the significant production facilities that employ a large number of people.

"Unfortunately, prevention, which we consistently warn about, has failed again" – he concluded.

One worker was injured in the fire, suffering a sprained wrist, while five were hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The causes of the fire are not yet known.
