(Patria) - The Brčko District Prosecutor's Office has concluded the proceedings in the case against Senad Muharemović (33), accused of attempting to kill a police officer identified as J.T. by shooting him on June 6 in Brčko.
Muharemović was provisionally sentenced to three years and one month in prison for the attempted murder of the off-duty police officer, as well as for the unauthorized acquisition, possession, or sale of weapons or essential parts of weapons.
The District Prosecutor's Office recently filed an indictment against Muharemović on suspicion that on June 6, around 2:30 AM, in Mostarska Street, in front of the Belvedere catering facility, he attempted to kill J.T. by firing a pistol for which he did not have a permit.
According to the indictment, after they had sat together in the aforementioned establishment the previous evening, the two drove to the Brčko customs terminal, where they began a verbal altercation in front of a friend, E.T.
After that, E.T. drove the accused to the Belvedere facility, while the victim followed and caught up with them in the parking lot of that facility, where they continued their verbal argument.
Then, while J.T. was in his car, the accused took a pistol from his vehicle and fired seven shots at him from close range.
As concluded in the indictment, he hit the victim in the left upper arm, causing him serious bodily injury, and damaged the vehicle in which J.T. was located in multiple places, after which he fled the scene with a third person.
After being located and arrested shortly thereafter, the Prosecutor's Office and the Police intensively continued the further prosecution of Muharemović within the investigation focused on the criminal offenses of attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons.
The efficiently conducted investigation was concluded in less than three months, on August 28, when the Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment against him for the criminal offenses of attempted murder (under Article 163 of the Criminal Code of Brčko District) and unauthorized acquisition, possession, or sale of weapons or essential parts of weapons (under Article 65 of the Law on Weapons and Ammunition of Brčko District).
After the indictment was confirmed, the accused and the Prosecutor's Office concluded a plea agreement, after which the court imposed a unified prison sentence of three years and one month.
Previously, a single prison sentence of three years was determined for attempted murder, while a prison sentence of two months was determined for the unauthorized acquisition, possession, or sale of weapons or essential parts of weapons.
Like the Prosecutor's Office, the accused can appeal the verdict, except for the part relating to the criminal sanction.
After the verdict was pronounced, the court revoked the accused's pre-trial detention by a special decision, which had been ordered immediately after his arrest due to the risk that he might repeat or complete the attempted criminal offense if released.
With the successfully conducted investigation and efficient prosecution of the accused, the criminal proceedings in this case were provisionally concluded in exactly three months.
