Mamić brothers arrested at the Croatian-Slovenian border

Executive Director of the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) Damir Vrbanović spent the night in police custody after being questioned on Friday evening by USKOK, which suspects him, along with the Mamić brothers and tax official Milan Pernar, of participating in illegal activities detrimental to the football club Dinamo and the state budget, writes index.hr, reported by Patria.

The Croatian Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime (USKOK) today requested pre-trial detention for Zdravko and Zoran Mamić, as well as Damir Vrbanović.

Brothers Zdravko and Zoran Mamić were later arrested at the border with Croatia.

USKOK is seeking pre-trial detention for the Mamić brothers due to the risk of them fleeing, potential influence on witnesses, and the risk of re-offending, while detention for Damir Vrbanović is sought due to the risk of potential influence on witnesses, writes 24sata.hr.

They are suspected of abuse of position, incitement to abuse, giving and receiving bribes, tax evasion, and aiding and abetting tax evasion. This involves a series of loans and their repayment, during which Dinamo coach Zoran Mamić acquired financial benefits of at least 6.8 million euros for himself and his family, and Dinamo president Zdravko Mamić around five million.

Zdravko and Zoran Mamić are currently in Moravske Toplice, Slovenia, for training with Dinamo, and their return is planned for tomorrow.
