Christmas Concert at the National Theatre

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The jubilee 10th Christmas Concert, organized by the Serb Educational and Cultural Society (SPKD) “Prosvjeta” Sarajevo, will be held tonight at the National Theatre in Sarajevo starting at 7:30 PM.

The concert, conceived as an introduction to the celebration of the most joyous Christian holiday, Christmas, will maintain a similar concept to previous years – a combination of spiritual and secular, ethnic traditions and customs.

The concert will open with the renowned choir of the Serb Singing Society “Vila” from Prijedor, performing Mokranjac's Christmas Troparion “Roždestvo tvoje”. The program will continue with the compositions “Marijo slavna” by an unknown author, “Božić, Božić” and “Anđeli pjevaju” by unknown authors, arranged by Dušan Pokrajčić, “Bogorodice djevo” by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff, and “Tijelo Hristovo” by Miodrag Govedarica.

The Academic Cultural Center “Seljo” from Sarajevo, which celebrated its 70th anniversary last year, will mark “Prosvjeta's” jubilee with a performance of Serb dances from Sarajevsko Polje.

On the stage of the National Theatre, among other pieces, several duets from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's most popular Christmas ballet “The Nutcracker” will be performed. The concert will conclude with the Sarajevo Mixed Chamber Choir “Lola”, conducted by Josip Katavić.

The choir “Lola” will present compositions from Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Bulgaria, and Macedonia tonight, and ballerina Jovan Milosavljević of the Sarajevo Ballet will perform in one number.
