Bosnia and Herzegovina lost Halid Bešlić

(Patria) - Halid Bešlić (72), the biggest BH music star, passed away today at KCUS. He had been battling a serious illness in recent days.

He was born on 20.11.1953 in the hamlet of Vrapci near Knežina, in the municipality of Sokolac. He grew up on Romanija, and described his childhood as happy, peaceful, and carefree.

He met his wife Sejda while recording his first single. They have a son, Dino. A few weeks before his death, his song dedicated to his wife Sejda was released.

Halid became a grandfather in 2014, and called the birth of his twins the happiest moment of his life.

Halid Bešlić began singing amateurishly in elementary school through various cultural and artistic societies, spending most of his time in KUD “Zijo Dizdarević”. He performed until he went to serve his military service, and after returning from the army, he began performing in well-known Sarajevo restaurants.

He released his first single titled “Grešnica” in 1979, and from then on, his popularity on the regional music scene began to grow.

During his career, he recorded about twenty albums, the first of which was titled “Sijedi starac”, released in 1981. In the eighties, he collaborated with composer Nazif Gljiva, and the result of their collaboration were numerous hits such as the songs “I zanesen tom ljepotom”, “Zlatne strune”, “Beograđanka”, and others. Record labels at the time worked in three shifts to manage to print the ordered runs of his sound carriers.

Later, he began collaborating with composer Zoran Kesić, which resulted in the hit “U meni jesen je”, from the album “Robinja” released in 1998. With that album, he showed that he had decided to move in a musical direction characterized as ethno-pop. Producers Samir Kadirić and Toni Lasan, along with author Dino Muharemović, helped Halid in his endeavor to continue in this musical direction. The collaboration with the aforementioned trio resulted in the album “Prvi poljubac” in 2003, which vividly illustrated the new musical direction.

In 2004, he performed the song “Malo je, malo dana” by Saša Lošić in the film “Kod amidže Idriza” directed by Pjer Žalica. His song “U meni jesen je” was used in the film directed by Ognjen Sviličić, and Halid performed the song “Put putuje moj jaran” in the film “Karaula”.

In 2008, in collaboration with Hayat production, he released the album “Halid 08”, from which the songs “Miljacka”, “Čardak”, “Snježana”, and “Dvadesete” stood out, equally loved by both older and younger audiences. In addition to his regular team, on this album, he collaborated with Geronimo, Fahrudin Pecikoza, and Željko Joksimović, among others.

In March 2009, Bešlić was involved in a car accident in which he was seriously injured.

In 2013, he released a new album titled “Romanija”, which featured 11 songs, with the song “Lavanda” particularly standing out.

Although it was speculated for a time that his career had come to an end, Halid Bešlić released the song “Taman je” in 2018, which was a preview of his new album “Trebević”, released by BHRT music production in 2020. Halid worked with his long-time collaborator Samir Kadirić, Mirko Šenkovski Geronimo, and one of the most prolific Croatian authors, Nenad Neno Ninčević, on this album.

Besides music, Halid Bešlić had also been successfully engaged in private business for several years.

Halid leaves behind a career spanning over 30 years, during which he sold several million sound carriers and held thousands of concerts. A large number of these concerts were of a humanitarian nature, and he was beloved throughout the region and the world.
