Bosnian Expert in Ukraine Working on Identification and Investigation of MH17 Crash!

An expert from the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) from Sarajevo is in Ukraine, at the invitation of Interpol, assisting in preparations for the identification of victims of the Malaysian plane shot down by pro-Russian separatists, the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP) has learned.

This information was confirmed to NAP by Jasmin Agović, spokesperson for the ICMP, an agency that has already gained a worldwide reputation. Pro-Russian separatists shot down the Malaysian passenger plane MH17 a few days ago with a missile, killing nearly 300 people, including a large number of children.

The leader of the separatists from the Donetsk region, Igor Girkin, who was also a member of the Army of Republika Srpska and allegedly holds Bosnian citizenship, appears to be responsible for the attack.

The expert from Bosnia and Herzegovina is already on the ground and is a member of Interpol's core team for victim identification in such cases, as we have learned.

"Based on Interpol's invitation, and as assistance to the Ukrainian authorities, our participation was requested, as we have previously assisted in the identification of victims of major accidents or terrorist attacks," says Agović.

However, as he points out, given the specific situation, it has not yet been fully decided where and how the victim identification will take place, as it is a matter of agreement between the Ukrainian authorities and the countries whose citizens were killed in the accident.

"We are ready, if requested, to put our capacities at the service of identifying the victims, but much is still undecided. As far as we know, the victims' bodies only left the zone controlled by pro-Russian separatists last night and were sent to Amsterdam, as nearly two-thirds of the victims were from that country," says Agović.

The ICMP has previously, as Agović points out, worked on identifying victims of the tsunami in Thailand, the typhoon in the Philippines, and the sinking of a ferry in that country.
