Fought for Russians: Haris Mataradžija, a Chetnik from Visoko, killed in Ukraine

Russian volunteer from Visoko Haris Mataradžija was killed on the Ukrainian battlefield in Zaporizhzhia in November last year, Istraga.ba has learned.

Mataradžija was a member of the Serbian Radical Party, a follower of war criminal Vojislav Šešelj, as well as the former president of the FRY Slobodan Milošević, who died in The Hague, where he was accused of war crimes.

Matardžija had previously posted photos with three fingers raised on his Facebook profile, shared Chetnik songs, called for "slaughtering Albanians," and wrote offensive comments about Bosniaks, calling them "Turks" and "balijas."

The media in the region wrote in 2021 that Matardžija was attacked in front of his house in Visoko "because he declared himself a Serb." He sustained minor injuries on that occasion. Haris was born into a "mixed marriage" and spent a good part of his life in Serbia.

As Stav reported in 2021, judging by the comments he left on Facebook, Haris was also involved in criminal showdowns in Istočno Sarajevo, in which firearms were used.

A month before Matardžija's death, another Russian volunteer from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Veljko Mijatović from the village of Boljanić near Doboj, was killed in Ukraine. According to reports, Mijatović was killed near the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, where he had been fighting as a volunteer on the side of the Russian aggressor forces in Ukraine in recent years.
