The gathering of veterans/defenders of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Croatian Defence Council, and the Ministry of Interior has begun in front of the FBiH Government building, as they aim to peacefully protest the poor position of this population, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.
A metal fence has been set up around the FBiH Government building, and strong police forces have been deployed.
The veterans are carrying banners with messages for the Minister of Veterans' Affairs of the FBiH Government, Salko Bukvarević.
Sead Draganović, president of the Union of JOB-Veterans 91-96 USK, came today from Bihać and says he expects three to four buses from this canton to arrive here in front of the Government to demand their rights, which have been denied, namely that everyone be equal regardless of whether they are part of the umbrella veterans' organization or any other.
- I know about those meetings of various leaders of veterans' organizations, but we won't talk about that. Just give us our rights so we can live normally. I have money, but I came for those who don't - Draganović emphasized.
Among those gathered is also the wife of a deceased veteran who never managed to realize any rights. She claims he is not in any registry and that she came today to find out who might be using her husband's rights in his name.
The veterans/defenders demand the abolition of funding for all veterans' associations in the FBiH area, the formation of a unified database of former veterans, the introduction of a monthly cash allowance for all former veterans, and these allowances should not be less than 320 KM, which is the amount of the minimum pension in the FBiH. They also want a continuation of the revision of veterans to determine who actually fought for this country.
Incidentally, the veterans' gathering is scheduled on the plateau near the Asim Ferhatović Hase Stadium, from where they will head towards the FBiH Government at 10 a.m.
