Bogićević: They turned nation into a profession and business

SARAJevo, (Patria) - Bogić Bogićević, member of the last Presidency of SFRY and probable future mayor of Sarajevo, emphasized tonight on N1 television's Pressing that the behavior of the international community in the nineties in Bosnia and Herzegovina was shameful.

Commenting on the addresses of Milorad Dodik and Dragan Čović at the United Nations Security Council last night, he assessed that such a thing was not unexpected.

"Nothing unexpected for me, for me the international community and its behavior in BiH was unbearable and shameful, regardless of the fact that they sent us humanitarian aid. As if a fire, flood, or earthquake happened here," he stated, assessing that the United Nations of 1945 does not have much in common with the United Nations today.

When asked if politicians have turned nation into a profession, Bogićević emphasized that this profession today represents a business and an opportunity for enrichment for many.

"For thirty years, people have been turning nation into a profession, but this profession represents a business and enrichment for many, and they forget that it is just one of the identities we received at birth. Every person has multiple identities. But only this one, national identity, is being pushed, and in multinational states like Bosnia and Herzegovina, it leads to the destruction of the state," Bogićević emphasized in a conversation with Amir Zukić.

Commenting on the changes in the government structure brought about by the local elections in Sarajevo, Bogićević expressed hope that the people of Sarajevo elected people first, and then members of a nation.

"I hope that the people of Sarajevo primarily elected people, and then members of a nation. This is not a fairy tale, this was Sarajevo and I am sure that this will be Sarajevo again. We had an interview with Josip Pejaković who reminded us of the great names of our culture and art who are the pride of this country. Unfortunately, we had a statement from a soldier from Kenya who served in Mostar and who drank goat's blood there because it is a custom. And he said that he served to separate some tribes in Mostar," he said.
