Blinken in Berlin: In case of Russian aggression against Ukraine, we will act unitedly with allies

(Patria) - The United States and its European allies will act unitedly if Russia further acts against Ukraine, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters on Thursday after meetings with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.

Blinken, speaking alongside Baerbock, said Moscow would face a "swift... serious" united response if its forces cross into Ukraine.

"We have been very clear all along. If any Russian military forces move across the Ukrainian border and begin new acts of aggression against Ukraine, it will be met with a swift, sharp reaction from the United States and our allies and partners," Blinken told reporters in Berlin.

Speaking at a press conference with Blinken, Minister Baerbock said the ministers "call on Russia to take steps towards de-escalation" of the situation.

"Any further aggressive stance, any further aggression, would have severe consequences," said Baerbock.

The meeting of allies comes a day before Blinken heads to Geneva for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Blinken will also meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin.
