BJELAŠNICA: Mountain rescue operation from avalanche completed

(Patria) - Today on Bjelašnica, at the Krvavac site, an avalanche occurred which buried three mountaineers. Fortunately, the mountaineers did not suffer fatal injuries and managed to pull themselves out of the snow. 

An EUFOR helicopter evacuated one injured person who was transported to KCUS. In the late afternoon hours, rescuers from GSS Station Sarajevo reached the injured, assessed their condition, and provided first aid. Given the nature of the injuries, helicopter transport was requested for two injured individuals. Within a short period, two EUFOR helicopters were on site. Despite unfavorable weather conditions at the accident site, the helicopters took off with the injured after a short break. Within 10 minutes, two helicopters with two injured individuals headed towards Koševo hospital. 

The third injured person was not injured and will be evacuated by GSS Sarajevo rescuers via land.  

Support was provided by the Operational Centre of the Civil Protection of Sarajevo Canton, as well as the Operational Centre of the MUP KS, with whom the operation leader was in continuous communication. 

Also present on the ground were members of the Cantonal Civil Protection, as well as members of GSS Trebević who also provided a vehicle needed for transporting snowmobiles to the Umoljani area. We thank all participants, as well as GSS Ilidža who made themselves available.
