Former Trump Strategist: Canada is the Next Ukraine

(Patria) - President Donald Trump is preparing to confront Chinese influence in Canada as his "Donroe Doctrine" for the Western Hemisphere expands beyond Latin America, his former campaign architect Steve Bannon told the Daily Mail.

- The next big thing will be Canada. Canada is the next Ukraine because it cannot defend its northern Arctic border, and China will come and take a bite. They cannot defend it, and Trump will move strongly against Canada - said Bannon, former chief strategist of the White House.

During his first term, Trump formed an Arctic task force that deepened his understanding of Greenland's geostrategic importance - and highlighted concerns about Canadian vulnerabilities in the Arctic.

- The President has long been concerned about Chinese activities in the Arctic after they described themselves as a "near-Arctic state" in 2018 - said former White House officials.

Canada is also building closer ties with China, which threatens to disrupt the existing relationship with the United States.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney raised American concerns when he visited China for the first time in almost a decade and described Chinese President Xi Jinping and China as "strategic partners".

- I believe that the progress we have made and the partnership we have built position us well for a new world order - said Carney.

He sided with Denmark and NATO allies regarding President Trump's interest in acquiring Greenland, telling reporters that President Xi "found a great alignment of views" regarding American interests on the island.

Carney's comments certainly raised concerns in the Trump administration, as the President is known for his suspicion of foreign activities in the Western Hemisphere.

Trump has hinted that his renewed desire to acquire Greenland has more to do with preventing Russia and China from entering this strategically important area.

Following an unprecedented operation in Venezuela that led to the capture and arrest of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, the world is taking Trump's adherence to the Monroe Doctrine seriously.

- The Monroe Doctrine is a big thing, but we have surpassed it - very, very much. They are now calling it the Donroe Doctrine - Trump told reporters at a press conference.

The 200-year-old Monroe Doctrine was presented by President James Monroe along with his Secretary of War John C. Calhoun and Secretary of State John Quincy Adams, who worked to consolidate the American position in the Western Hemisphere.

- It was very important, but we forgot it. We are not forgetting it anymore. Under our new national security strategy, American dominance in the Western Hemisphere will never again be questioned - Trump told reporters after the mission in Venezuela.

- The "Donroe Doctrine" expands that ideal to jealously defend the entire Western Hemisphere from the growing influence of Russia and China.
