Former Head of EU Delegation to BiH Peter Sorensen is the new EU envoy for the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo

(Patria) - Head of European diplomacy Kaja Kalas has forwarded to EU member states the proposal to appoint Danish diplomat Peter Sorensen as the new EU Special Representative for the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, reports Anadolu Agency.

All appointment procedures should be completed by the end of the month so that the new special representative can take office on February 1, given that Miroslav Lajčák's mandate in this position ends at the end of January, Tanjug reported.

Peter Sorensen is a career diplomat with experience in the Western Balkans.

From 2006 to 2010, he was the personal representative in Belgrade of the then EU High Representative, and in Pristina from 2002 to 2006, he served as Deputy Head of Pillar IV (Reconstruction and Economic Development) of UNMIK, while from 2001 to 2002 he worked as a senior advisor to the UN Special Representative in Pristina.

In 2000, Sorensen also served as legal advisor to the UN Secretary-General's special envoy for the Balkans.

He also briefly held the positions of Head of the EU Delegation in Skopje and EU Special Envoy and Head of the EU Delegation to BiH.

During the 1990s, he also worked as a political advisor and observer in the European Community's observer mission in the former Yugoslavia, and later in the OSCE mission in Croatia.

He is currently employed by the European External Action Service.
