(Patria) - Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, a member of the British royal family, was released from police custody almost 12 hours after being arrested on suspicion of abuse of public office.
According to Sky News, former Prince Andrew left the Aylsham Police Station in a vehicle, leaning back in his seat as if trying to avoid cameras.
The police issued a statement carried by the BBC:
"As part of the investigation, we have today arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of abuse of public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk."
Thames Valley Police had previously confirmed that they had launched an assessment of allegations against Andrew, stemming from the recently released Epstein documents.
In this process, the police cooperated with experts from the British Crown Prosecution Service.
Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, a criminal offense related to the abuse of public office.
He has previously denied any illegal conduct related to Jeffrey Epstein on multiple occasions.
The arrest represents one of the most significant legal challenges for a member of the British royal family in modern history, as the investigation now enters a new phase under intense public and institutional scrutiny.
