Former CIA Director John Brennan: The man is unhinged, I think the 25th Amendment was written with Donald Trump in mind

(Patria) - Former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) John Brennan has joined calls to remove US President Donald Trump from the White House based on the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution, claiming the mechanism was "written with Trump in mind".

Brennan, who led the CIA during Barack Obama's term, told MS Now that Trump's recent threats to destroy Iranian civilization are proof that he is "obviously unbalanced" and poses a serious threat.

"This man is unhinged. I think the 25th Amendment was written with Donald Trump in mind," he said.

He warned that Trump, as commander-in-chief, has immense power at his disposal, including the nuclear arsenal, and that it is too great a risk for him to remain in office. His comments come at a time when the US President has intensified rhetoric against Iran, threatening "mass destruction" if Tehran does not meet the ultimatum.

As The Guardian writes, more than 70 Democrats in Congress have already called for the activation of the 25th Amendment, which allows the Vice President and a majority of the cabinet to remove the President if he is unable to perform his duties.

However, the chances of this are minimal due to the loyalty of Vice President JD Vance and the entire cabinet to Trump.

Brennan's comments are particularly significant as he is under investigation by Trump's Department of Justice, which is investigating him along with former FBI Director James Comey. Comey was accused in 2025 of false testimony before Congress, but the case was dismissed, while the investigation against Brennan remains open.
