The Higher Court in Belgrade ordered pre-trial detention for up to 30 days for former Minister of Agriculture Slobodan Milosavljević early this morning, as well as for five other suspects for malversations with agricultural land in Novi Sad, while one suspect was released to defend himself from freedom, reports the Patria News Agency.
The judge for preliminary proceedings issued a decision ordering detention for Dušan Protić, Zoran Šćepanović, Zoran Radoman, Jovan Keravica, and Mirjana Spasić, in addition to Milosavljević, Tanjug reported, citing court spokesperson Tanja Koljenšić.
Detention was ordered due to the existence of special circumstances indicating that the accused, if released, would obstruct the proceedings by influencing witnesses, Koljenšić added.
She noted that the judge rejected the Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office's motion for pre-trial detention for the accused Ilija Radosavljević. Musulin Gorki, for whom the prosecution did not request detention, will also defend himself from freedom in this case.
The Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office yesterday launched an investigation against the former minister and the other seven on suspicion of committing criminal offenses of abuse of official position and abuse of position of a responsible person. They were arrested on Saturday in an anti-corruption police operation, along with 80 other suspects for various criminal offenses, writes Tanjug.
