Investigative Commission to Be Formed to Examine Failures in the Investigation of Dženan Memić's Murder

At today's session of the Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton, the initiative of representative Segmedina Srna Bajramović to form an investigative commission, which will urgently examine failures in the police handling of the murder case of Dženan Memić, was unanimously adopted, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Srna Bajramović, explaining her initiative, said that there is a justified suspicion regarding the actions of the competent authorities in this case.

The Chairperson of the Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton, Ana Babić, stated that she had received a citizens' petition with 17,300 signatures for the establishment of this commission and more extensive oversight of the work of the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton and the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office.

As members of the Security Commission stated, this week is the deadline for forming a list of experts who will investigate all circumstances that raise justified suspicion of improper handling by the authorities.

We remind you that Dženan Memić, under still unexplained circumstances, sustained injuries on February 8 in Velika aleja while walking with his girlfriend. He died on February 15 at the University Clinical Center Sarajevo, and to this day there is no official information about what happened to this young man. The Memić family and citizens have organized peaceful protests twice to finally uncover the truth.

One of the questions also concerned the state of healthcare in the Sarajevo Canton. Minister Zilha Ademaj said that on Friday a meeting was held with representatives of healthcare institutions and medical chambers, where the complete medical documentation regarding the death of Safet Prazina, who fell at a construction site in Ilidža, was reviewed.

- This will certainly be a court case given that it is a fall at a construction site. The complete medical documentation on this case was presented, which unequivocally states that the patient's life was endangered upon the arrival of the Emergency Medical Service - said Ademaj.

Mario Vukasović raised the question of whether any family member of the members of the Medicines Commission owns a pharmacy.

Ademaj said she believes there is no conflict of interest, but she cannot investigate the entire families of the Commission members.

An answer to this question was also given by the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, Elmedin Konaković:

- Even if someone is a pharmacy owner, I don't see how they could influence the prescribing of medications. Only possibly if they are a manufacturer on the Commission. We gave approval for 4 controllers at the Health Insurance Institute to see what our doctors are doing. In that commission, we want people from practice - said Konaković.
