- I have repented for what happened in BiH during the war years, but I am not sure if Radovan Karadžić would have acted the same, says Biljana Plavšić, former president of Republika Srpska, reports the Patria News Agency.
On the day of the sentencing of her former comrade-in-arms and associate, wartime president of RS Radovan Karadžić, Biljana Plavšić says she is not optimistic. Unlike her, Karadžić, as she says, was often unrealistically optimistic.
- He is an unrealistically optimistic person who sometimes cost Republika Srpska dearly. However, I think that unrealistic optimism would serve him well now. He defended himself, he had good advisors, he had the money to pay them. He is a man capable of enduring all of this - says Plavšić.
For her, she says, it is completely normal that she repented for everything done during the wars in BiH. It was precisely this repentance that was one of the mitigating circumstances that influenced the sentence she served in 2009.
In 2003, Biljana Plavšić pleaded guilty to the crimes she was charged with by The Hague. As she says, Karadžić commented on her confession at the time as the beginning of the end for the Hague Tribunal.
- That was in 2003. Today, he is in that same Hague, awaiting his sentence. That is another thing that speaks to his unrealistic optimism - says Plavšić.
