White House concerned about Russian momentum on the Ukrainian battlefield

(Patria) - The White House fears that the delay of the US Congress in approving the latest tranche of aid to Kyiv has created favorable momentum for Russian forces, irreversibly changing the dynamics of the situation on the Ukrainian battlefield, reports New York Times.

Due to several months of extremely slow advances by the Russian army, there was justified hope that the Kremlin would be forced to withdraw its units from Ukraine in the foreseeable future.

However, the administration of current US President Joe Biden is increasingly concerned that the latest series of (successful) Russian breakthroughs is reducing the maneuvering space for a Ukrainian counteroffensive, making the situation appear increasingly hopeless.

Recall, Russian forces have in recent days begun a new breakthrough around Ukraine's second-largest city - Kharkiv.

US officials and military experts confidently claim that "there is still no reason for panic because the situation on the ground will begin to change the moment US aid arrives on the battlefield."

According to their estimates, a turnaround could occur no later than July.

However, they are less ready to confidently answer the question of whether the Ukrainian defense line can successfully keep enemy forces out of its territory until then, reports Jutarnji list.
