Bihać: Woman Defended Granddaughter from Bullies, Prosecution Seeks Prison Sentence for Jasminka

The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office in Bihać is seeking 30 days in prison for a woman from Bihać because she threatened the principal of Harmani 1 Elementary School after a group of boys beat her granddaughter, reports the Patria news agency.

A group of students from Bihać beat a girl with special needs in March this year, after which the girl ended up in hospital and the entire case was reported to the police.

Jasminka Samardžić-Baković, who is also the guardian of little Samanta, then threatened the school principal that he must protect the child, or she would take a gun and punish the bullies who were abusing her granddaughter.

- I said that in a fit of anger. I didn't know how else to protect my child. The boys were abusing her, and the principal did nothing to protect her. When I didn't know what else to do, I said I would take a gun, but it's clear I said it in a fit of anger – Samardžić-Baković told the Patria agency.

After the incident, the police searched the home of Jasminka and her granddaughter, but no weapons were found. However, an indictment was still filed against Jasminka. The cantonal prosecutor requested that the Court in Bihać punish this woman with 30 days in prison or a one-year suspended sentence. The boys who beat Samanta, as well as their parents, face no consequences for abusing little Samanta.

Jasminka and her granddaughter live in a dilapidated house in Bihać. They have no income, which often leaves them hungry. The situation became more complicated after Jasminka fell ill a few months ago, first with diabetes and then with breast cancer, writes Patria.
