BiH seeks international assistance in firefighting

(Patria) - The Council of Ministers of BiH, upon the proposal of the Ministry of Security, adopted a Decision on seeking international assistance for protection and rescue in firefighting.

For extinguishing these fires, BiH requires aircraft with crews, as requested by the competent civil protection authorities in BiH. International assistance for firefighting is received by the competent civil protection authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The decision was made at the request of the Federal Civil Protection Administration due to large forest and open space fires in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which can potentially spread to other areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

During the state of natural or other disaster due to the coronavirus pandemic – SARS-CoV-2, which has also affected Bosnia and Herzegovina, a large number of fires have occurred, and the existing resources of the competent civil protection authorities and defense institutions of BiH for their extinguishment are insufficient.
