Biden warns Republicans: You are helping Putin if you don't approve aid to Ukraine

(Patria) - US President Joe Biden called on Republicans in the House of Representatives to approve aid to Ukraine, warning them that opposing the adopted legislative proposal "plays into the hands of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin".

The US Senate yesterday voted for a $95 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. However, the real test will be the vote in the House of Representatives, where Republicans have a majority, many of whom oppose continued aid to Kyiv.

"History is watching," Biden said yesterday, adding that the stakes are even higher after his predecessor Donald Trump's statement that he would not protect NATO members from Russia if they did not spend enough on defense, reports Voice of America.

Biden emphasizes that the stakes were already high for American security before the legislative proposal was adopted in the Senate. However, in recent days, those stakes have become higher. "And that's because the former president sent a dangerous and shocking, un-American message to the world".

Biden assesses Trump's statement, who "does not see NATO as an alliance that protects America and the world," as "stupid" and "shameful".

"He sees it as protection racket," Biden said at a press conference at the White House, emphasizing that "no president in our history has bowed to a Russian dictator".

The Senate adopted the aid package with 70 votes in favor and 29 against. Among those who voted for the package in the Senate were Republicans, and Democrats have a majority in that body.
