Biden compares Hamas attack to the Holocaust

(Patria) - US President Joe Biden warned of rising antisemitism in the US, at a time when his support for Israel is dividing Democrats and alienating young voters.

In a speech dedicated to the six million Jews killed in World War II, Biden joined a heated public debate about attacks on Jews, Zionism, freedom of speech, and support for Israel in the country with the largest Jewish population outside of Israel.

Addressing attendees at a commemoration at the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, he warned that the truth about the systematic killing of Jews in World War II could be lost.

- Never again, in translation, simply means: Lest we forget. And lest we forget means we must persistently tell the story, tell the truth. There is a risk that people will not know the truth, he said.

Biden spoke seven months after Palestinian Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 Israelis in what he called the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

- That hatred (towards Jews) remains in the hearts of too many people in the world and requires us to be vigilant and to constantly talk about it. And today we are here, not 75 years later, but barely seven months later, and people are already starting to forget that this terror began with Hamas, Biden emphasized.

He added that everyone has the right to protest, but he did not mention those killed in Gaza.

- We know that the demonization of any minority is a danger to every minority. There is no place for antisemitism, hate speech, or any form of violence on American campuses, Biden stated.
