(Patria) - The outgoing US President Joe Biden preemptively pardoned five members of his family today, a few minutes before handing over the duties to Donald Trump.
He emphasized that he wants to prevent them from becoming targets of "unfounded and politically motivated investigations".
Among those pardoned are his two brothers James and Francis, and the list also includes Sara, James Biden's wife, Biden's sister Valerie, and her husband John.
Biden also commuted the life sentence of Native American activist Leonard Peltier, who spent almost five decades in federal prison for the murder of two FBI agents in 1975.
Peltier will spend the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
