Biden in address: I call on Trump to defend the Constitution and end this siege

(Patria) - Newly elected US President Joe Biden addressed the citizens of the USA in a televised broadcast.

"Our democracy is under such an attack that we have not seen. This is an unprecedented attack, this is an attack on the Capitol, on the representatives of the people, on the Capitol Hill police who swore to protect them, and on the state employees working in the heart of our republic. This is an attack on the rule of law, which is unheard of. An attack on the most sacred in America. It is a duty to the people. This is chaos and it must end now. These scenes of chaos are not a reflection of true America and do not represent who we are, he continued, it is a small number of extremists and this must stop immediately.

The president's words mean something, regardless of how good or bad that president is, but at best they can inspire someone, and at worst they can provoke. I call on President Trump to go on national television immediately and defend the Constitution and demand that this siege stop. Entering the Capitol, smashing spaces, entering offices, entering the Senate, the House of Representatives, that is not a protest, it is a rebellion. The world is watching this, as are many Americans. I am shocked and saddened that our nation, which has been an example of hope and democracy for so long, has come to such a dark moment.

This is a painful reminder that democracy is fragile and must be maintained, and that requires people of goodwill, leaders to stand up, who are not dedicated to continuing power for their own selfish interests regardless of the cost. They must be dedicated to the common good. Imagine our children watching this, the whole world. President Trump, show up. May God bless America, protect our soldiers and all those on the Capitol trying to maintain peace," said Biden.
