Biden in South Carolina seeks support of Black voters

(Patria) - US President Joe Biden visited South Carolina last night, a large base of Black voters, which is first on the Democratic Party's calendar of contests for the nomination of candidates for the November elections, Reuters reported.

Biden, who is preparing for a likely rematch of the 2020 race against Donald Trump, will argue that the former Republican president poses a threat to communities of color.

He will explain why he replaced the less diverse states of Iowa and New Hampshire at the top of the party's nomination calendar and offer insight into how he plans to attack Trump on his record with Black Americans, a campaign official said.

"President Biden has long believed that our nominating process should reflect the rich diversity of our party, and he is following that commitment and his commitment to Black voters, the backbone of the Democratic Party," said Biden campaign deputy manager Quentin Fulks.

The Democratic primaries in South Carolina are held on February 3 and Biden is expected to win easily and secure the party's nomination.

The president has faced criticism from some Black voters who supported him in 2020, including dissatisfaction with his failure to pass voting rights laws and other issues.

Although Democrats have no hope of winning the state in November, Biden hopes that focusing on South Carolina will help strengthen support among Black voters.
