Biden: Trump is not only demolishing the White House but also American democracy

(Patria) - Former US President Joe Biden criticized his successor Donald Trump, saying he is not only demolishing the East Wing of the White House but also American democracy.

"I knew Trump would come with a wrecking ball to the country, but I admit, I didn't expect it to be a literal wrecking ball," CNN reported Biden's words spoken on Friday at a Nebraska Democratic Party rally in Omaha.

The former, 82-year-old Democratic president thus referred to the work Donald Trump began on the East Wing, where he is building a ballroom, which led to the demolition of that part of the White House.

"It's a perfect symbol of his presidency. Trump brought a wrecking ball not only to that people's house, but also to the Constitution, the rule of law, and our democracy itself," Biden assessed.

In his speech, he directly called out Trump, saying he disgraced the US and put the interests of the rich above Americans.

Referring to the Democrats' victories in the gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia, and Zohran Mamdani's victory in New York last Tuesday, the former president called them bright spots in a very, very dark moment. Biden believes that Americans sent a message to Trump with these elections.

Biden rarely appears in public since stepping down from office in January, and it was revealed in May that he suffers from prostate cancer.
