(Patria) - US President Joe Biden has warned that there is a "distinct possibility" that Russia could attack Ukraine next month, the White House announced.
Russia, meanwhile, claims that there is little optimism in resolving the crisis after the US rejected Russia's main demands.
The buildup of tens of thousands of Russian soldiers on Ukraine's borders in recent weeks has raised fears of an invasion, but Russia denies planning an attack.
The US President commented on this in a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday.
"President Biden said there is a clear possibility that the Russians could attack Ukraine in February. He has said this publicly and we have been warning about it for months," said White House National Security Council spokesperson Emily Horne.
During the conversation, President Biden "reaffirmed the United States' readiness, along with its allies and partners, to respond decisively if Russia invades Ukraine," according to a White House statement, BBC reports.
