Biden raised $72 million for presidential campaign

(Patria) - U.S. President Joe Biden and the Democratic National Committee raised more than $72 million for his re-election in the first 10 weeks since announcing his candidacy for next year's presidential elections.

This is a large sum, but still not a record for a sitting president, writes the Associated Press.

The money was raised between April 25, when Biden announced his candidacy, and the end of June.

For comparison, former President Barack Obama raised $85.6 million during the second quarter of 2011, when he launched his campaign for a second term, although he announced his candidacy three weeks earlier than Biden.

In 2019, then-President Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee jointly raised $105 million in the second quarter.

Biden, who will not have serious rivals for the Democratic nomination, still faces constant concern within the party about voter enthusiasm for the 80-year-old candidate.

The amount of funds raised will likely quiet, but not eliminate, some concerns about whether Biden can gather the support needed for a successful campaign.

During the last campaign, he raised over a billion dollars in donations, reports Index.hr.

Polls show that Democrats would prefer to be represented by another candidate, but there is no consensus within the party on an alternative.
