Biden signs budget, avoiding government shutdown

(Patria) - U.S. President Joe Biden signed a $1.2 trillion budget bill, thus avoiding a partial shutdown of federal services, the White House announced.

Biden described the package, which Congress largely approved in the early morning hours of Saturday, as an investment in Americans, strengthening the economy and national security.

The Democratic president called on Congress to pass other stalled legislation in one of the two houses, reports RSE.

"The bipartisan budget bill that I just signed keeps our government open, invests in the American people, and strengthens our economy and national security," Biden said.

The Senate, with a Democratic majority, passed the budget bill by a vote of 74 to 24.

Key federal services, including the State Department, Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, and Treasury, will be funded until September 30, the end of the fiscal year.

However, the bill does not include funding for aid, primarily military, for Ukraine, Taiwan, or Israel, which is contained in another document that the Senate passed, but the majority Republican House of Representatives is still not giving it the green light.
