Biden pardoned his son Hunter, Trump angry - 'This is an abuse of justice!'

(Patria) - U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he had pardoned his son Hunter, who was awaiting sentencing in cases of illegal possession of firearms, false statements during a gun background check, for which he was previously found guilty, as well as tax evasion, which he himself admitted.

"Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter," he said in a statement released by the White House.

Although Biden had previously assured that he would not grant a presidential pardon to his 54-year-old son, a recovering drug addict who became a target of Republicans, including President-elect Donald Trump, he now decided to do so.

"No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son, and that is wrong," Biden said.

He made this decision over the weekend.

"I believe in the justice system, but (...) I also believe that raw politics has infected this process and led to a miscarriage of justice. And when I made this decision this weekend, there was no point in further delay. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a president would make this decision," he stated.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump sees the pardon of Hunter Biden as an "abuse and miscarriage of justice."

"Does the pardon Joe gave to Hunter include the J-6 hostages, who are now imprisoned for years? This is an abuse and miscarriage of justice!" Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

The "J-6 hostages" Trump mentioned are most likely individuals who participated in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, reports The Hill.

Steven Cheung, a spokesman for Donald Trump, said that the U.S. Department of Justice, controlled by the Democratic Party, and radical prosecutors have turned the justice system into a weapon. "That system must be fixed and all citizens must have the right to a fair trial. President Trump will do exactly that when he returns to the White House," Cheung said.

Joe Biden's youngest son was convicted earlier this year for lying about his drug addiction when purchasing a firearm—an offense in the state of Delaware, Biden's home state. In September, he pleaded guilty to tax fraud and was awaiting sentencing in each of these cases.
