Biden: North Korea's nuclear attack would be 'end of that regime'

(Patria) - South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said at the White House that peace with North Korea will come with strength and promised that any response to a nuclear attack would involve American atomic weapons.

Yoon told a joint press conference that he and U.S. President Joe Biden agreed that "we can achieve peace through superior strength, not a false peace based on the goodwill of the other side," agencies reported.

Yoon said he and Biden agreed on steps to strengthen South Korea's defense in response to the threat posed by North Korea.

"Our two countries have agreed to immediate bilateral presidential consultations in the event of a nuclear attack by North Korea and have pledged to respond quickly, overwhelmingly, and decisively using the full force of the alliance, including the nuclear weapons of the United States," Yoon said.

Biden reiterated the U.S. offer to North Korea to hold diplomatic talks on its nuclear and missile program, which North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has previously ignored. Biden warned that a North Korean nuclear attack would result in the end of any regime that took such action.

"A nuclear attack by North Korea against the United States or its allies or partners is unacceptable and would result in the end of any regime that took such action," he said.
