Biden to the nation: We are at war with the virus, not with each other

(Patria) – Newly elected US President Joe Biden appealed to Americans to be careful during the Thanksgiving holiday due to the coronavirus epidemic that continues to rage in the US.

In his first address to the nation, in a presidential style, Biden stated that he recognizes the fatigue with restrictions and warnings regarding the coronavirus, but that it is necessary to be vigilant due to the renewed increase in the infection rate in the country.

- I know we are tired of fighting. We need to remember that we are at war with the virus, not with each other, emphasized the newly elected US President, appealing to Americans to avoid traditionally large family gatherings on Thanksgiving, to wear masks, and to maintain physical distance.

He reiterated his earlier promise to take steps to combat the pandemic immediately after taking office on January 20.

More than 261,000 Americans have lost their battle with the Covid-19 virus, with the daily average of deaths now exceeding 2,000, and hospitalizations on the rise. The US is first in the world in terms of the number of infected and deceased due to Covid-19.

Biden also noted that the country is facing a 'long, hard winter', but also that 'the soul of the nation is stronger' during the most difficult circumstances.

He reiterated his hope that positive news regarding vaccine development – which could become available to Americans in a few weeks – will motivate citizens to take simple steps to curb and control the virus.
